Decluttering before moving in Berkshire & Surrey

5.0from 21 Google reviews: rated 5.0 out of 5
  • No judgement
  • Based in Windlesham

Decide what comes with you before you pay to pack and move things you no longer want.

Moving gives you enough to think about without sorting years of belongings alone. Before the packing begins, I categorise what you own room by room. You choose what belongs in your next home; I help organise the retained belongings and agree a plan for the rest.

If you’re moving to or from Ascot, Sunningdale or Windsor, decluttering first means you only pack and move the things you want to keep.

Room to breathe

Enjoy your space, without all the work

I charge £60 an hour, in four-hour (£240) or six-hour (£360) sessions, with travel at 55p per mile only for homes further afield. This is preparation before a move, not removals. For help settling in at the other end, see my unpacking service.

Based in Windlesham, helping homes across Ascot, Sunningdale, Virginia Water and nearby Berkshire and Surrey.

Boot room before: baskets and coats in a jumble
Boot room after: baskets labelled and coats hung, with a family calendar on the wall

How it works

You make the decisions. I do the rest.

  1. I empty and categorise

We agree priorities, with an in-home consultation available to look at the space. I take everything out and group it so you can see what you own. You don’t have to work out where to begin.

  2. You decide what to let go

With similar things together, you can choose what you still want. Nothing goes without your agreement. I don’t force you to get rid of things, lecture you or get bossy. Making the decisions is your part; I take care of the sorting.

  3. I organise what you keep

I source suitable storage where needed, then arrange what stays around your belongings and home. With less to manage and clear places to put things, everyday tidying becomes easier.

The practical details

What decluttering before moving includes

  • In-home consultations available to look at your space and agree priorities
  • Pre-move priorities and timing agreed
  • Belongings categorised before packing
  • Your decisions about what will move with you
  • Retained items organised by room or use
  • A plan for items you no longer want
  • Discussion of separate unpacking help if needed
  • Storage sourcing suited to what you keep, using existing storage where possible

We agree the scope on our first call. In-home consultations and storage sourcing are available as part of the process. We agree visit arrangements, storage purchases and any travel costs before you book. There is no need to tidy before I arrive.

See session prices, arrange an in-home consultation, or explore before-and-after results. If several spaces need attention, whole-home organisation brings them into one plan.

My work is decluttering and organising, rather than cleaning or removals. I don’t take rubbish or charity donations away myself. I can arrange rubbish collections and free charity collections for donations, with accepted items, coverage and any rubbish collection charges confirmed first. More practical questions.

In clients’ words

How it feels afterwards

“It was almost overwhelming to think about decluttering our family home ready for sale. Thank goodness for Ruth!”
– Jackie, Ascot

Your questions

Decluttering before moving: FAQs

When should I book decluttering before a move?

As early as you can before packing begins. Tell me your expected dates and the rooms involved so we can agree a realistic plan; availability is confirmed on the call.

Is pre-move decluttering the same as packing or removals?

No. This service focuses on deciding what you want to take before packing. It is not a removals service.

Can you help if I am downsizing?

Yes. We consider the space in your next home while you decide what to keep. Furniture measurements and plans can help, and your decisions remain yours.

Can I book unpacking separately for the new home?

Yes. My unpacking service offers a Kitchen & Principal Bedroom Unpack from £900 and a Full Home Unpack in 7 Hours from £1,250 (£1,250 to £2,300 depending on team size). Travel is charged by postcode and storage products are added at cost.
